Internazionale pulled off an impressive win over Chelsea in an International Champions Cup match between the two clubs in Singapore, but most of the talk after the match was about a spectacular piece of self-sabotage from Geoffrey Kondogbia.
In the 74th minute, the Italian giants were cruising along nicely at 2-0 against the English champions, thanks to goals from Stevan Jovetic and Manchester United target Ivan Perisic, before Kondogbia decided to spice things up a bit with a ludicrous own goal.
The way the French midfielder turned a seemingly innocuous situation into a goal for Chelsea was a thing of ghastly beauty. If the 24-year-old fails to fulfil his talent and his career fades away into mediocrity, he will always be remembered for this moment.
Kondogbia, who had been on the pitch for only about 16 minutes, received a pass near the halfway line and, under the slightest amount of pressure from a Chelsea player, turned towards his own goal and chipped the ball sublimely over goalkeeper Daniele Padelli, who was under the false impression that his net was not under threat with his own team in possession halfway down the pitch.
Inter hung on for a 2-1 win. But really, who cares about the scoreline when this match has gifted the world these 15 seconds of comic footage for the ages?
