Is this the daftest double yellow line ever painted in Manchester?

It's not even as long as a car.

Or a bicycle, for that matter.

Could this be the daftest double yellow parking line ever painted in Manchester?

The snap was taken by a passer-by on Tuesday on Back Bridge Street, which runs between Irish pub Mulligans and San Carlo restaurant in the city centre.

Measuring just over a foot in length, the freshly-painted lines appear to have been laid over a new patch of road surface.

On the opposite side of the narrow road more new surfacing has been carried out - but bizarrely no double-yellow lines have been painted on that section.

Which begs the question - why?

One passer-by who took a double take said they wondered whether contractors simply ran out of paint.

They told the Manchester Evening News: "It does appear to be a bit odd and pointless.

"It must be the smallest double-yellow line in the city."

In the background fading double-yellows can be seen, suggesting the entire road will be repainted at some point.

We asked the council, which said a 'temporary repair' had to be carried out.

A Manchester council spokesman told the M.E.N.: "A temporary repair has been carried out on a small patch of the road.

"The double-yellow lines will be repainted in due course, in line with our existing road maintenance programme."
