Is this the creepiest tunnel in Merseyside? Eerie footage captures abandoned fairground rides and clowns

This is the inside of one of Merseyside's creepiest underground tunnels which is frozen in time hidden 30ft below the city.

Eerie footage taken by a travel vlogger captures the haunting underground world - hidden under New Brighton's Palace Adventureland.

The historic tunnels, which are understood to date back over 200 years, were used during World War Two as air raid shelters and a secret weapons factory.

And although the creepy hidden passageways are now open to the public, their existence remains a secret to many.

In the footage taken by 'Exploring with Fighters' many of the walls can be seen decorated in World War Two artifacts - including medals, propaganda posters and old photographs.

However as the group moves through the secret bunker, their discoveries become more chilling.

In one spooky underground space there are two coffins - one adorned in a United Kingdom flag, the other in a United States flag.

And in the same room is a old piano, on top of which is a number of olden-day family photographs.

Continuing their underground exploration, the group move into what once was the bustling secret munitions factory.

The video shows rows of dusty machines, in the same positions they once were, lined up in the room.

Between 1939 and 1945, more than 200 women would work around the clock, on these machines, making bullets and shells for the war effort.

Moving on through the tunnels, the group also come across a number of quite chilling, abandoned fairground rides, including old bumper cars and what appears to be merry-go-round figures. The explorer comes across dummy heads and an effigy in a clown mask.

The rides - which will have once been popular attractions, now lie rusted and abandoned beneath the city.

Speaking to the ECHO Exploring with Fighters said: "The tunnels were amazing.

"Especially finding the old rides.

"I travel around the world finding locations lost in time and forgotten about and then upload my findings.

"It's a passion that started from when I was a kid.

"There was a really creepy abandoned house near where I lived.

"All the kids used to go up to the gate and then run off.

"I wanted to adventure around it and that is what sparked all this.

"I've seen some of the most amazing things on my travels and just when I think I have found the best, I find something better.

"

It is never ending."
