Is this the best Newcastle United XI to face Burnley?

Newcastle United will be forced to reshuffle the pack for Saturday's trip to Burnley.

Head coach Steve Bruce's press conference on Friday morning confirmed the Magpies could be without seven first-team players for the clash at Turf Moor.

Allan Saint-Maximin joined captain Jamaal Lascelles and Matt Ritchie on the long-term injury list earlier in the week.

But United have now been hit by further blows with Jonjo Shelvey and Miguel Almiron considered doubts due to muscle injuries, while a knock for Ki Sung-Yueng and a calf complaint for Ciaran Clark has ruled the pair out.

The majority of these will likely be back for the visit of Crystal Palace the following weekend, but it could force Bruce to significantly alter the line-up from the side which delivered back-to-back wins against Sheffield United and Southampton.

The head coach will surely be reluctant to alter the system which has delivered the recent upturn in form, with the Magpies picking up four victories from their last six matches.

Presuming the formation will remain the same and the aforementioned players are ruled out, here is our suggested United XI to travel to Turf Moor and attempt to record a third successive victory:

Martin Dubravka

Surely the first name on every fan's teamsheet. The Slovakian international has been in fine form in the Magpies' recent revival.

Javier Manquillo

DeAndre Yedlin is back in contention for a starting spot. But Manquillo has come into the side and impressed, and deserves to keep his place for now.

Fabian Schar

The Swiss international has arguably been United's best player in the calendar year. The 27-year-old gained some valuable minutes against Southampton in his own recovery from injury.

Federico Fernandez

Out in the cold at the start of the season, the Argentine has arguably now made himself indispensable under Bruce. The 30-year-old - playing for a new contact on Tyneside - has chipped in with several important goals in recent weeks.

Paul Dummett

The academy product found himself out in the cold following the thrashing at Leicester City. But injuries have handed Dummett a quick route back into the first-team.

The loanee's form has been so impressive, the absence of Matt Ritchie has not proven too damaging to the Magpies. United must get this permanent deal wrapped up sooner rather than later.

Sean Longstaff

If Shelvey passes a late fitness test, the playmaker has to start. But if the 27-year-old is forced to miss out, the more experienced Longstaff brother is the logical replacement.

Isaac Hayden

If Sean Longstaff is given a recall, there could be the temptation to repeat the partnership with younger brother Matty. However, since the dismissal at Leicester, Hayden has recaptured the form of last year.

Christian Atsu

Bruce is being forced to make changes in both wide positions, and United will undoubtedly miss the pace of Almiron and Saint-Maximin in transition. Atsu started the season in decent form, and is the best bet on the right flank.

Joelinton

United made the Brazilian the club's record signing to lead the line, but the 23-year-old has struggled as the number nine so far. Bruce admits he is considering using the forward in a wider role, and it would not be a surprise to see him on the left at Turf Moor.

Andy Carroll

If he's fit, he surely starts. Given Carroll's recent performances and contributions at both ends of the pitch, the Geordie frontman will surely be given the nod for what will surely be another physical battle at Burnley.
