A woman says she almost got into a fight at Costco after a child crawled under her bathroom stall and the mother nonchalantly responded to the violation.
What happened inside this bathroom at Costco?
In a viral TikTok, Dinosaurfer (@stfusydney7) says she was taking a tinkle when a child about 7 years old crawled into her stall. “Hey, is this anybody’s child?” she questioned. Silence.
She says the child stared at her like he was in “The Shining.” She asks the child where their parent is and they do not respond, instead crawling under an adjoining stall. The woman in the next stall loudly proclaims, “I’m taking a [expletive]” and questions whose child is in her stall. The TikToker presumes that the child’s parent will respond now that another woman has become irate. However, she is sadly mistaken.
By the time the TikToker finishes her business and exits the stall, she sees the child practically emptying out the paper towel and soap dispensers and throwing wet paper towels at the floor and ceiling and on top of the sink drains. She says water is going everywhere, and she again asks whose child is causing the ruckus.
The mother then appears
Finally, a woman nonchalantly walks out of a stall and calls her child’s “stupid” name, telling him to come with her so they can leave.
“Hold on,” the TikToker says. “This child just went under my stall, fully invaded my privacy. I get it; they’re a child. But then, when I asked, ‘Hey, who are you? Where’s your mom?’ you didn’t say anything.”
“Well, they weren’t doing anything bad,” the mother responds. Peeping is not a crime in her world, it seems.
The TikToker contends that he did, in fact, do something wrong, not only by invading two women’s privacy, but also by creating a mess that Costco workers will have to clean up. She tells the woman the least she could do is clean up the mess, and the woman tells the TikToker not to tell her how to parent.
“Don’t make me parent your kid,” the TikToker responds.
She says the mother was shouting and getting in her face when the woman in the other stall walked out and said, “Don’t you [expletive] talk to her like that. She’s doing the right thing here.”
She says the mother then tried to fight her, lashing out at her from behind the woman who was separating the two. The TikToker found the situation embarrassing for the mother, especially because her child was watching and appeared “super super scared.”
“Don’t do this in front of your kid,” she says. The mother makes a retort, and the woman in between them tells the TikToker to go and that she will handle the situation.
The TikToker says she told Costco employees there was a “crazy” woman in the bathroom when she left. She adds that, in retrospect, she’s unsure whether she handled the situation appropriately, but she also doesn’t care because the child was doing wrong and his mother wasn’t parenting properly.
‘Oh yeah 100% valid crashout. I would be livid’
In the comments section, viewers agreed the mother’s parenting skills were lacking.
“So tired of people who don’t parent,” one said. “It’s seriously becoming a problem.”
“The mother’s response is exactly why a SEVEN YEAR OLD is acting like that,” a second argued.
A third wrote, “I have two kids and I would have been MORTIFIED if my children crawled under stalls with other people in them! Your response was 100% valid!!”
Did she handle the situation properly?
According to a Quora thread questioning what one should do if a child crawls under their bathroom stall, she did. Most respondents said they would say something loudly to indicate to the parent that their little one has wandered off. Some suggested, especially if the child is six or older, a light (or not so light) shove with a shoe to shoo them out of the stall.
Redditors had a more lax approach. They said a calm comment usually caught the parent’s attention and the child would be promptly dragged out of the stall. One mentioned that if no one came to claim the child, they would finish their business and then bring the child to a store employee so as not to leave them unattended.
The TikToker likely would have done this if she had been put in this situation, as she mentions in her video that she called out for the child’s parent several times after she came out of the stall because she didn’t want to leave the boy alone.
