Is there something bigger in the works for the Texans?

NFL free agency and the official league new year kicked off Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. Central, and Houston Texans general manager Brian Gaine has signed safety Tashaun Gipson and cornerback Bradley Roby. The moves were understandable since the Texans let Tyrann Mathieu and Kareem Jackson go in free agency.

It all begs the question: On paper are the Texans any better than they were after their embarrassing 21-7 wild-card playoff loss to the Indianapolis Colts?

The answer has to be no. The biggest need is obviously the offensive line, but Gaine and company has yet to sign an offensive lineman. Is it possible that they really love this year’s offensive linemen in the draft?

If that is the case Texans pick at 23 in the first round and the top offensive lineman is Jonah Williams out of Alabama. It is highly doubtful he falls to 23rd overall. The eerie thing is the Texans have been very quiet on Kirby Drive this free agency. So with that said, could there be something bigger in the works?

Could it possibly be a trade centered around Jadeveon Clowney? Would the Texans actually trade their stud defensive player to possibly move up into this year’s draft to possibly select Williams? Sure it could happen, but that’s just one piece to the puzzle.

We have to also remember that LSU standout cornerback Greedy Williams is in this draft. Williams had 19 passes defended, eight interceptions, and 72 total tackles for a loss in his two years at LSU. Could this be the player the Texans pull off such a trade for centered around Clowney?

There are a multiple options the Texans can do, but you have to wonder why exactly it’s been so quite on the Texans front. What exactly is going on? The Texans are not any better than they were a couple of months ago. Surely coach Bill O’Brien and Gaine see this and wake up.

Another 9-7 mediocre season to win the AFC South and hang the prestigious division title banner is getting old and stale. Something has to change for the Texans if they want to finally get in the NFL’s final four.
