Police officer knocks on No10 door so Downing Street cat can be let in - and all during live TV broadcast on Brexit

A policeman was caught on camera knocking on the door of No10 so that the cat could be let inside.

Viewers reacted with delight asking whether there was 'anything more British' after the adorable moment unfolded in the background of a Sky News broadcast on Brexit.

The segment included a presenter standing at 10 Downing Street discussing the recent attempt to unseat Theresa May with a confidence vote.

As the reporter described the "immediate threat that appeared to be looming at the back end of last week", feline-in-residence Larry sat waiting on the doorstep.

As the broadcast continued, Larry twitched his ears in apparent impatience. Fortunately, his bid for attention did not go unnoticed.

A policeman wearing body armour and a helmet nipped in to knock on the door, which was then opened to let Larry in.

The clip offered relief for political observers at a time when turbulent discussions are ongoing over how Brexit will proceed.

"I was distracted by the cat for the entire segment," said one viewer.

"That's the key business of the day settled, eh," said another.
