Is There a New Stranger Things Episode Coming Out On April 7? The 'Final Chapter' Rumour Explained

Is There a New Stranger Things Episode Coming Out On April 7? The 'Final Chapter' Rumour Explained (Credit: Stranger Things. Things Instagram account)

Netflix fans hoping for a new Stranger Things episode on 7 April will be left hanging. Rumours of a four-hour 'Final Chapter' bonus release, featuring the full cast in an alternate ending to season five, have swept social media, but it's all an elaborate April Fool's prank timed for Mike Wheeler's birthday.

Stranger Things wrapped its fifth and final season last December, with episodes dropping in three volumes: the first four on 26 November, the next three on Christmas Day, and the finale on New Year's Eve.

The ending drew sharp backlash from viewers who spotted plot holes, like the vanishing demogorgons and demodogs, and a petition racked up over 400,000 signatures demanding unseen footage or a redo. Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers, shut down bonus talk in January, insisting the Duffer Brothers 'really left nothing more to be told.'

That didn't stop the internet from buzzing. Fake posts from bogus fan pages claimed Netflix caved to the outrage, editing alternate scenes into a marathon special dropping at 8pm EDT (1am UK time on 8 April).

The bait? Teasers of Eleven running a waffle cart in Iceland's Fossa waterfalls, only to get tracked and 'killed' by military types, before waking in Vecna's dystopian triumph. Suddenly, the show's tidy Hawkins wrap-up made sense as a Mind Flayer-induced trance, with Hawkins Lab morphing into a mega-gateway via Derek's zombie family and missing bat-demodog horde.

Stranger Things Fans Fall for Outlandish Plot Twists

The prank's script screenshots and Duffer Brothers 'editing' clips were pure fanfic gold, if absurd. Picture this; an hour-and-a-half of Holly Wheeler's Kate Bush woodland wander, two hours of Will spilling on his sexuality to everyone from family to his mate's sister's ex's colleague's bird, then a rushed 25-minute Mind Flayer showdown.

Pausing the videos supposedly revealed Nancy, Jonathan and Steve in a throuple clinch, Hopper felled by a dimension-hopping 'Lehlialehn' in Hawkins' West End, and Mike-Will driving a Surfer Boy van to a Vegas drive-thru wedding. Post-credits? It was all Nancy's dream from Sadie Sink's DnD visions in Mike's noggin. Bloody hell, even Riverdale would balk at that mess.

Millie Bobby Brown; sorry, Bonnie Bongiovi these days, stayed schtum, too busy Insta-flexing her 611 pet goats. Meanwhile, the hoax Netflix 'statement' gushed; 'Stranger Things holds a special place in our hearts, and we are delighted we can deliver another chapter in this beloved story.'

Charming, if it weren't bollocks. These viral traps, often AI-spun by engagement-chasing 'fan sites,' prey on diehards still salty about the finale's convenience. Remember the 'Conformity Gate' theory?

That one swore the epilogue was fake, with a secret true end looming. Spoiler; Netflix's 'One Last Adventure' doc just confirmed 600 hours of scrapped footage exists, but it's staying binned.

Debunking the Stranger Things April Fool's Hoax

After nine years of Upside Down chills, egg hunts in the snow, and Eleven's Eggo obsessions, that finale felt like a rushed D&D campaign fizzling out. Demobats? Gone. Demogorgons? Poof. Vecna's masterplan? Tamed off-screen.

Fans poured fury online, Change.org lit up, and suddenly whispers of a petition-forced pivot. But Netflix doesn't bow to backlashes like that; not when the metrics show billions of hours viewed.

The 7 April hook was genius in its cheekiness, nodding to Mike's canon birthday while dangling redemption for every gripe from continuity cock-ups to underserved arcs. Will's queer awakening dragged? Check. Love triangle resolved lazily? Throuple incoming (allegedly).

Yet pausing those clips takes forensic patience most scrollers lack, and by then the shares rack up. It's the digital equivalent of those tabloid 'I Saw You' ads; tantalising till you squint.

Truth is, the Duffers wrapped their saga tight, bar the documentary teases. No four-hour behemoth lurks in the queue; season five's runtimes topped out shy of that, despite confusion.

If anything, this prank underscores Stranger Things' grip; even months on, we're primed for portals reopening. Check the date next time, yeah? But if you're still mourning Hawkins, rewatch the real finale; or start theorising spin-offs. Just don't hold your breath for Icelandic waffles.
