Is there a Joker movie end credits scene to stay for?

Put on your happy face.

The Joker movie is finally in cinemas and sees The Hangover director Todd Phillips deliver the darkest take yet on the origins of the Batman nemesis and the Clown Prince of Crime.

Set in the 1980s, Joker follows struggling comedian and clown-for-hire Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) whose spiralling mental health and the increasingly precarious situation in Gotham City threaten to unleash a dangerous and toxic new movement in the city, while Fleck himself transforms into a dangerous new figure: Joker.

The film also stars Robert De Niro as Fleck's comedy hero, Deadpool 2 star Zazie Beetz as his next door neighbour and crush, and Frances Conroy as Penny, Arthur's ailing mother.

But should viewers stay for the credits, as is the case for many comic book movies these days?

Is there a Joker movie end credits scene to stay for?

The Joker (Warner Bros)

There are no end credits scenes in the Joker movie, with the film ending as credits roll and ending with a title card once these are finished.

The Joker movie is intended as a standalone film, but director Todd Phillips has not ruled out the possibility of a sequel when clarifying earlier comments he had made.

Speaking to IGN, Phillips said: "The quote was, 'I will do anything Joaquin wants to do.' And I would. But the movie's not set up to [have] a sequel. We always pitched it as one movie, and that's it."

He added: "We made this movie, I pitched it to Warner Bros. as one movie. It exists in its own world. That's it."

Phillips revealed that the film is not part of a plan for further films, saying: "It's not about world-building, it's not about other versions. It's like, here's our version of the origin story. That's it. That's what I meant."

So, no wonder there's no credits scene!

Joker is released in cinemas on October 4, 2019.
