It's Bonfire Night and many people will be gathering across Merseyside to watch spectacular firework displays, but is there an event taking place in Liverpool tonight?
There are bonfires and fireworks happening near Liverpool this evening, including Wirral, Southport, Ormskirk and Chester.
Liverpool’s River of Light event often involves a firework display over the waterfront on Guy Fawkes Night.
Unfortunately, Liverpool City Council announced earlier this year that there will be no fireworks at this year's River of Light event. In previous years before the pandemic, the River of Light fireworks display attracted up to 50,000 people.
Speaking about the decision, Claire McColgan, Liverpool’s director of culture, said the council wanted to plan for an event that could take place "no matter what situation we find ourself in with Covid-19".
However, there are other Bonfire Night fireworks displays you can enjoy near Liverpool this weekend.
Hurlston Hall in Ormskirk is having a huge bonfire and firework display tonight, while Pleasureland in Southport is hosting a Day of the Dead celebration on Saturday November 6.
In Wirral, there are displays happening tonight at Lingham Park in Moreton, Mayer Park in Bebington, Woodchurch Leisure Centre, Mersey Park in Birkenhead and Leasowe Adventure Playground.
Refreshment Rooms in Wirral is also hosting a Bonfire Night celebration down on the beach with a selection of food and drinks.
On Saturday November 6, Wirral will also have displays in Birkenhead Park and Central Park in Wallasey.
Newton-Le-Willows Sports Club is having a fireworks display tonight with a fairground for under 12s, food stalls and indoor and outdoor bars.
Chester Racecourse's Lord Mayor’s Fireworks Extravaganza is back this year with an incredible firework display over the racecourse happening on Saturday 6.
