Is the US political system changing?

Super Tuesday is the biggest single day of the state-by-state presidential nominating contests for the November 8 election.

Businessman Donald Trump has defied all expectations with his sweeping win on Tuesday and in previous primary contents.

He has made campaign pledges to build a wall along the US southern border with Mexico and deport 11 million undocumented immigrants.

He has also proposed banning Muslims from entering the United States.

With his recent victories, Trump is likely to advance towards sealing the Republican nomination though he still faces a tough fight from Florida Senator Marco Rubio and Texas Senator Ted Cruz.

Many are now saying his nomination is inevitable.

So, what would such a scenario mean for the Republican Party? And how much support does Trump really have among the US electorate?
