Is The Open on TV? Live stream, betting odds and more for the major golf tournament

The 148th Open Championship gets under way on Thursday morning with homegrown favourite Darren Clarke hitting the opening shot of the tournament at 6.35am.

It will be the first of four days of intense action on the famous Dunluce Links.

Around 200,000 fans are expected to descend on Royal Portrush, with millions more watching the action unfold on TV.

Here's what you need to know:

When and where is it?

If you didn't know, The Open Championship is taking place at Royal Portrush from Thursday, July 18 to Sunday, July 21. Practice has been ongoing throughout the week.

What's so special about this tournament?

Well, it's The Open, for starters. And it's the first time since 1951 that Northern Ireland (and Royal Portrush) has hosted the major tournament.

Can I watch it on TV?

Of course! Sky Sports Golf are showing live coverage of the tournament.

Can I stream it?

Sky Sports subscribers can also stream The Open via the SkyGo app. You can also watch it through NOW TV, buying a Sky Sports day pass for £8.99, a week pass for £14.99 or a month pass for £33.99. NOW TV can be streamed through a computer or apps found on most smart TVs, phones and consoles.

Any other coverage?

BBC Radio 5 Live has live commentary of each round. You can also catch up on the day's big talking points with a two-hour highlights programme on BBC Two and the BBC iPlayer from 8pm.

Who's the defending champion?

Italian Francesco Molinari won it in 2018.

Who is fancied this year?

Home favourite Rory McIlroy is the favourite with many bookmakers. He holds the old course record (61). Four-time major winner Brooks Koepka will also be expected to contest the Claret Jug along with Irish Open winner Jon Rahm. But there are plenty of others.
