A South African mother picks up a package of kids’ bandages at BestCo, a local grocery store. However, she is horrified when she opens one of them.
In a video with over 1.6 million views, TikToker Lynelle (@lkd_15) holds a box of bandages, showing several options with colorful children’s characters on the front.
The box advertises, “Fun, vibrant, and colorful designs. Put a smile back on your child’s face.”
However, she can’t believe what one of the bandages says in bold lettering.
What phrase was written on the kids’ bandages?
“I opened some of them because I wanted to see the little cute pictures and whatever,” she says. “But I want to show you another one.”
She picks up one bandage, covered in a sanitary wrap. The design can’t be seen through the paper.
“You can see, it’s sealed,” she continues.
Then she opens one, showing the word “Pu–y,” slang for vagina, written in bold red letters across the bandage.
“What in the world?!” she exclaims. Her child giggles in the background of the video.
She points out that the brand on the bandage package is “Hongyu,” which she is unfamiliar with. Upon searching for the brand of bandages online, Google does not produce any results.
This isn’t the first time a parent has noticed inappropriate text on a children’s product. The Mary Sue previously reported that a mom noticed sexually explicit phrases on an Easter dress her toddler daughter received as a gift.
What did viewers think of the bandage?
In the comments, viewers question how the bandage featuring an inappropriate phrase could have been approved in a children’s product.
“That looks like an employee took some… creative liberties with one batch lol that was definitely not made by a designer,” a commenter suggests.
“I think this may have been lost in translation or something,” another writes.
“Yohh get that store owner to answer. Imagine you buy these and send with your kids to school,” a third viewer remarks.
Others joke about the bandage and say they would still use it.
“I’d save that for my toddler crying over a scratch,” one writes.
“It’s specifically for those tiny cuts that you could have survived without a plaster,” another says.
“Sometimes they really be crying over nothing soooooo….,” a third jokes.
“I laughed too hard at this, I’d keep them and keep buying them,” a fourth comments.
Some even plan to go to BestCo to see if they can score the bandages for themselves. A few shoppers say they purchased the same box of bandages, but that it didn’t contain the inappropriate text.
“Bestco is the best thing ever!!!lol which section cos that place is hugeeeee?!?!” one asks.
“On my way to take mine back because I only got cute pictures. I want that box,” a second shares.
