'Is that blue on it?' - Bristol City fans offer mixed reviews of new away shirt for 2021/22

Consensus opinion was that Bristol City and Hummel absolutely nailed all three kits last season, plus the goalkeeper tops, as the club began a new partnership with an outside kit maker for the first time in six years.

As a result there is understandable anticipation for the 2021/22 range, only enhanced by the smart lifestyle range that was dropped last week.

In the first of what will be a series of releases, and interestingly without a new signing or contract renewal to promote it, City unveiled their new away kit on Thursday evening.

Predominantly black with the Robins badge moved into the middle of the shirt and with cyan (not blue) piping on the sleeves but, once again Hummel have added an interesting local feature.

Last season's home jersey paid homage to the Ashton Gate Eight, the away kit saw a return to the iconic purple and lime while the third shirt featured the names of supporters within the pattern.

For 2021/22, the away shirt draws its inspiration from the coloured houses in Totterdown in the design below the logo of sponsors Mansion Bet, who have been renewed for the season.

There is also "One for the Bristol City" printed on the inside of the shirt and "BCFC" embroided just below the neck. The shirt goes on general sale tomorrow at bcfc.co.uk.

However, judging by the reaction on social media, the new design will take some getting used with the primary gripe among supporters being the switching of the badge into the centre of the shirt.

There are also several supporters questioning the apparent blue on the design, given its association with a certain other football club in Bristol, however as Hummel and the club insist it's, in fact, cyan.

Over on our Facebook page there was a similarly mixed response with Ady Lee questioning: "Why blue trim, surely red or white would be better?" while Simon Nash, rather witheringly, added: "Just need some decent players to wear it."

Paul Williams declared: "Looks really tidy for a change", while David Maggs added: "smart, innit."
