A man once described as being part of a "close-knit group" of Sydneysiders supporting the Islamic State's activities is back in prison for allegedly breaching a control order.
Ahmad Saiyer Naizmand, 25, didn't apply for bail in Burwood Local Court on Wednesday after being arrested in Auburn.
He's accused of twice failing to comply with a condition of a control order by causing another person to use a mobile telephone device on his behalf, federal police say.
The two charges both carry a maximum of five years in jail.
The order was confirmed in May 2020, three months after the expiry of a four-year jail term Naizmand served for contravening an earlier control order.
An appeal decision states the 2015 control order was in place due to the Federal Court being satisfied Naizmand "was part of a close-knit group of men in Sydney who supported the theology and activities of Islamic State. ... and who were considered to be willing and able to commit a terrorist act, including a desire to become martyrs".
Naizmand accessed extremist videos on his mobile phone via YouTube within the first year of the order.
The videos included Islamic extremist recruitment propaganda and material advocating violent jihad, martyrdom, fighting and the destruction of disbelievers.
He was arrested in February 2016.
Naizmand had earlier travelled to Dubai on his brother's passport in August 2014 - an act for which he was convicted and placed on a recognisance to be of good behaviour.
The 25-year-old was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on December 22 at Burwood.
