RGG studio’s upcoming title, Stranger than Heaven, is shaping up to be its biggest and most ambitious game to date. It’s an action-adventure title set across five different eras of Japan, focusing on the origins of the Tojo Clan, which you may recall as the clan once led by charismatic Kazuma Kiryu in theYakuza games.
Ever since its reveal, Stranger than Heaven has been heavily marketed by Xbox, showing up at its showcases, much like the Like a Dragon titles. Naturally, this raises the question of whether Sega has some marketing deal with Xbox for this upcoming title, and if so, will Stranger than Heaven be coming to Xbox Game Pass?
Fortunately, yes, Stranger than Heaven is coming to Xbox Game Pass at launch. It will be part of the Game Pass Ultimate tier, which recently experienced a $7 price drop. In its most recent showing, in which RGG revealed Stranger than Heaven’s voice cast and story details, the studio also confirmed that this Yakuza prequel will launch this winter.

Stranger than Heaven is an Xbox Play Anywhere title

In addition to launching directly on Xbox Game Pass, Stranger than Heaven is an Xbox Play Anywhere title. It means that if you purchase the game via the Xbox Store, it will be available to play on both Xbox consoles and PC via the Xbox App.
Additionally, game progress is seamlessly shared across platforms. So, for instance, if you start Stranger than Heaven on your Xbox Series X, you can resume progress on PC via the Xbox App without any hassle.
Can you play other Yakuza games on Xbox Game Pass?

As of this writing, the only Yakuza game available on Xbox Game Pass is 2024’s Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. It’s the latest mainline entry in the Yakuza franchise, which takes Ichiban and the gang to the vibrant coasts of Hawaii.
Up until March, 2025, Game Pass boasted the entire Yakuza collection, from Yakuza 0 to Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Sadly, that’s no longer the case, though things may change closer to Stranger than Heaven’s launch.
