Is Somalia on the brink of a new conflict?

Is Somalia on the brink of a new conflict?

Somalia’s president has backed down from extending his term by two years, following opposition from within and outside the country.

Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, also known as Farmaajo, has called for preparations to hold delayed elections.

But he and his opponents have not been able to agree on how that vote should go ahead.

Rival factions have been fighting in the capital, Mogadishu, and al-Shabab is seizing the opportunity to extend its grip.

Could the political instability spark a new conflict?
