Is Snapchat down? Google Cloud outage causes chaos online also affecting YouTube and Gmail

Snapchat, YouTube , Gmail and Uber are all experiencing technical issues after a Google Cloud outage.

The Cloud is critical for numerous websites and apps across the internet.

Website DownDetector.co.uk has revealed users across the UK, including Glasgow, are suffering problems with the popular websites.

A number of outraged users took to social media to vent their frustration at the outage, with #YouTubeDOWN and #snapchatdown rising to the top of Twitter's trends.

Discord, which is a community chat application, told users: "A Google Cloud Services outage is impacting our services in certain regions, sorry about the trouble!"

On the Google Cloud Platform website it says: "We are currently encountering a cloud networking issue throughout all Google Cloud Platform, this is affecting all products currently."

YouTube is down for users across the globe (downdetector.co.uk)

At 1.45pm US/Pacific Time (9.45pm UK time) they wrote: "We are experiencing high levels of network congestion in the eastern USA, affecting multiple services in Google Cloud, G Suite and YouTube.

"Users may see slow performance or intermittent errors. We believe we have identified the root cause of the congestion and expect to return to normal service shortly."

It is not immediately clear what has caused today's issue or when services might be restored.
