Is Sam Fender still playing Mouth of the Tyne following Glastonbury cancellation?

Fans of North East favourite Sam Fender will be keeping fingers crossed that the Brit Award winner will be taking his rightful place in the local spotlight when the Mouth of the Tyne festival gets under way.

The singer-songwriter, who suffered vocal problems earlier this summer, yesterday announced he has been forced to pull out of Glastonbury on doctors' advice.

In a heartfelt , he said he is "absolutely gutted" to cancel Friday's gig at Glastonbury which he said had been his dream to play.

Explaining that doctors have told him he needs longer to recover from illness, he added that he has also cancelled commitments in France, Belgium and back in the UK between July 4 and July 6.

With his eagerly-awaited headliner gig at the Mouth of the Tyne festival coming up on July 11, many local fans - who ensured that the summer gig at Tynemouth Priory sold out in record time - will have been worrying about whether he is likely to be well enough to play.

But the signs are that those extra days could be just enough to have the 24-year-old back in top condition.

His management team said on Thursday that they were "hoping he'll be fine for Mouth of the Tyne."
