Is Ryan Pace out as Bears GM after this season?

At this point, the expectation is the Chicago Bears will part ways with head coach Matt Nagy after this season. But general manager Ryan Pace’s fate isn’t as certain.

There are arguments for why Pace should stay on as GM and why he should be released. But it’s ultimately up to ownership to make that choice.

According to CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones, it sounds like Pace will be out as GM at the end of this season.

Whether it happens today, or tomorrow, or any day between now and Jan. 10 following the final game of the regular season, Bears head coach Matt Nagy will be relieved of his duties in Chicago.

It’s likely that general manager Ryan Pace will meet a similar fate, and it’ll be the dawn of a new era in the Windy City.

Jones went on to explain that both the head coach and general manager jobs would be the most attractive on the market, which has a lot to do with the young talent in place, starting with quarterback Justin Fields, who’s on a rookie deal.

While Pace has several blunders to his name, including some failed first-round draft picks and free-agent or trade acquisitions like quarterback Nick Foles, he’s also managed to find some good free agents, like Akiem Hicks, and late-round steals, including Darnell Mooney.

There was always a belief that Pace and Nagy were a packaged deal — if one goes, the other goes, too. I guess we’ll see if that’s true or if Pace lives to survive another head coach.
