Roblox has faced a lot of backlash after a prominent content creator in the community, Schlep, was banned for exposing predators on the platform a few weeks ago. Since then, Roblox has tripled down on its decision. Now, while a big part of the community and many content creators continue to criticize their decision. In the latest turn of events, Schlep has announced that he will file a lawsuit against Roblox. Is this a cause for concern that Roblox might be getting shut down?
Well, it is too soon to draw any conclusions. However, let's go over the most important bits related to the drama to see what could await Roblox in the future.
Schlep's Lawsuit Announcement
Following Roblox's decision to ban Schlep from the platform on August 9th, 2025, for breaching their terms of service, the whole community, alongside popular figures, and even US congressmen, have called for Roblox to improve their child safety policies. Now, even though Schlep's mission to expose child predators on Roblox was without a doubt just, the Roblox Corporation has doubled down on the decision, which prompted Schlep to announce that he will be countersuing them.
A few weeks later, on September 2nd, Schlep confirmed on X that he and his team of lawyers are teaming up with Law By Mike with the intention of suing Roblox and disproving the notion of it being completely safe for children. In the video posted on Law By Mike's YouTube channel, Mike summarizes all of the events that unfolded since Schlep's ban, so make sure to watch it.
Can Schlep's Lawsuit Impact the Future of Roblox?
Right after the Schlep's ban, the State of Louisiana filed a lawsuit against the Roblox Corporation. The main claim of it is that the company prioritized its profits over child safety. So, it isn't just Schlep that is suing Roblox. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that the future of Roblox is grim. Soon after the backlash, the company announced that enhancing child safety is its primary focus in the near future.
Conclusion - Is Roblox Getting Shut Down?
If Roblox delivers on its promises and makes the platform completely safe for children, then there should be no reason for it to get shut down. Additionally, given the size of the Roblox playerbase, a decision to shut it down will be hard to make. However, suppose the safety changes aren't made in the near future. In that case, this might incentivise governing bodies to restrict access to Roblox and impose safety regulations of their own. We've already seen this happen when Turkey banned Roblox in August 2024 because "it's not safe for children".
