Is RBS online banking down? Customers complain after being locked out accounts

Hundreds of RBS and NatWest customers have been locked out of their accounts after their online banking system crashed.

On social media customers are claiming that they are unable to access their online banking account - meaning they can't check their balance or transfer money.

One user tweeted: "Is there problems with your website?

"I can’t get onto my online banking through a browser and I need to put money into my current account today for direct debits!!

Another added: "What time will it be possible to log on to my online bank account? I've tried several times and each time I get a message saying this site cannot be reached.

"Mobile app doesn't work either. The whole of the NatWest system is failing to work."

Online banking for RBS, and NatWest (which RBS owns) appears to have crashed for customers across the UK, according to website tracker Down Detector.

Responding to comments, NatWest said on Twitter: "I’m sorry you’re experiencing issues. We are looking into this now"

By 9am some customers were experiencing the online banking going back to normal.

A spokesman for RBS/NatWest said: "A small number of customers may have experienced problems accessing mobile and online banking for a short period this morning.

"All services are back up and running as normal. We apologise for any inconvenience this caused."
