Is PlayStation Network down? Game downloads stop working as The Finals hits the PS Store

PlayStation Network appears to be down just hours after a hot new game arrived on the PS5.

Console gamers have reported issues with the online service in the UK and the US, according to website status tracker Down Detector.

Sony has yet to acknowledge a problem: The PlayStation Network service status shows that all systems are running normally.

However, users on X (formerly Twitter) said they had received the error code CE-107982-7 when attempting to download games. There are also multiple reports on Reddit from users who have encountered the issue, many of them shared on a three-year-old post.

PlayStation owners claim they have tried in vein to restart the console, and even deleted specific games while frantically searching for a fix. We faced the same hurdles during our own tests on the PS5.

Down Detector shows that the issue began at 1pm this afternoon. At the time of writing, there were more than 270 user reports of PlayStation Network problems on the site in the UK, and 325 in the US.

PlayStation Network is an online gaming and media service, which allows PS4 and PS5 owners to play and purchase games and apps.

Earlier this week, some people claimed their PlayStation Network accounts had been permanently banned without any reason given, as reported by The Verge.

It's unclear if the two problems are related. The Standard has reached out to Sony PlayStation for comment.

"Safe to say everyone seems to have this problem," wrote a user on Reddit, indicating that the error may be widespread.

"So turns out nobody can download games on PSN right now, everyone is getting the error code CE-107982-7 no matter what you're trying to download," said a Twitter user.

The technical issue comes on the heels of the launch of The Finals, a hyped multiplayer shooter game.

Released on consoles during the Game Awards 2023, the free online game sees teams battling it out in arenas that they can alter and destroy.

Square Enix also dropped its first DLC for Final Fantasy 16, entitled Echoes of the Fallen, on Thursday to coincide with the ceremony.
