Is Nottingham beach going ahead in 2022? Key update issued on popular event

Nottingham city council has confirmed that the popular Nottingham Beach event will take place this year in Old Market Square for the first time since 2019. In previous years, the beach preparations have normally been underway by the start of July so many beach visitors have been left wondering if it will go ahead.

While there are few details available, there is expected to be an announcement by organisers later this week about what visitors can expect. The beach features bars, rides, beach barbecues and street food in the heart of the city centre. It normally runs from around mid July until September when the weather starts to become cooler.

The event has been cancelled for the past two years due to Covid restrictions and beach fans have been left wondering if it will return this year.

Last year, Nottingham saw an increase in the number of Covid infections as restrictions were lifted. A decision was made by the organisers, Mellor's Group and Nottingham City Council to cancel the event.

It wasn't the only hugely popular event to be cancelled last year as Splendour and Riverside Festival were also called off. Splendour is also returning this year as a two-day weekend event.

The city centre location won't be the only beach in Nottingham this summer as there are plans to introduce a smaller version to Market Place in Newark. The 18m by 4m beach will have plenty of deck chairs, huts, a tiki bar, and buckets and spades. The sound of waves will be laid while street food and ice cream will be available.
