Is more snow on the way? Met Eireann forecast change in the coming days

Met Eireann are forecasting snow in some parts of the country tonight as the cold air continues to linger over Ireland.

It will be mainly confined to higher ground, with no significant falls elsewhere.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Clear spells & scattered showers this evening. Some of these showers will be heavy & more frequent in the W & will turn wintry at times too, falling as sleet or possibly snow over high ground.

"Lows of 1 to 4°C in moderate to fresh westerly winds, strong along Atlantic coasts."

However, no more snow is forecast in the coming days as Ireland's temperatures make somewhat of a recovery after the bitter start to January.

Weather chiefs are anticipating a much more settled week, with the occasional cold night, but no major precipitation expected.

Warnings are also unlikely according to the month-long forecast.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Showers will become mainly confined to the western half of the country tonight, occasionally turning to sleet. Elsewhere showers will be more isolated with clear spells developing. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 4 degrees in moderate to fresh westerly winds, strong along Atlantic coasts.

"Tomorrow morning will start bright and dry in many areas with sunny spells, though there will be showers over Ulster. However, cloud will increase from the southwest during the morning and afternoon with rain gradually spreading northeastwards across the country through the day. Highest afternoon temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees, becoming milder in Munster later in the evening, in mainly light to moderate westerly winds.

"Gradually becoming more settled in the week ahead. Patchy rain and drizzle on Monday will die out, leaving drier and brighter weather as we move towards midweek."

Monday and Tuesday night will both see the mercury dip as low as 0C, if not lower, but daytime temperatures are likely to recover close to 10C.
