Is McDonald's open during the national lockdown in England?

Hospitality businesses have been ordered to remain closed under the national lockdown in England.

Boris Johnson announced a raft of new measures in a televised address on Monday evening in a bid to curb rising coronavirus rates.

The public were told to stay home, while only essential services must resume.

So where does that leave McDonald's fans?

The government guidance states that hospitality venues such as cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars and social clubs should continue to remain closed.

However there is the exception that they can provide food and non-alcoholic drinks for takeaway up until 11pm.

Customers can also use click-and-collect and drive-through services.

While there is now a ban on take-out alcohol, all food and drink, including alcohol, can continue to be provided by delivery.

Paul Pomroy, McDonald’s CEO UK and Ireland, said:Following the latest government announcements, our restaurants will remain open for Drive-Thru and McDelivery services and Click & Serve for Drive-Thru which is available via the My McDonald’s App.

"Our dine-in and walk-in takeaway services will be temporarily unavailable while we take time to review and reassess our safety procedures with an independent health and safety body.

"This is a temporary change in our operations to allow us to test and validate any additional measures that may further enhance the safety of our takeaway service.

“We will continue to keep customers updated via the My McDonald’s App and our website.”

Other businesses that must remain closed under the national lockdown include non-essential retail, accommodation such as hotels, and leisure and sports facilities.
