Is LJ Scott retiring from football?

Two days ago, we covered the news that former Michigan State running back LJ Scott had signed with the Cleveland Browns. A Youngstown native, the Browns are his local team and it made a lot of sense for him to go there. However, just a few short days after the announcement, news broke from Dana Balash of WFMJ, the local NBC affiliate for Youngstown, Ohio, that LJ Scott is leaving the team.

Scott was reportedly not with the team for Wednesday’s OTA session and Dana Balash’s source implies that Scott decided the NFL was simply not for him upon arriving at camp. Even more bizarre, Balash’s source told him that LJ Scott has not just chosen to leave the Browns, he is retiring from the sport entirely.

This is a weird story, and it hasn’t been officially corroborated by anyone else as far I have been able to find so we will continue to update the site as we find out more information. As of 11:05pm ET, LJ Scott was still included on the Browns website. He also seemed excited about his signing, tweeting this just a few days ago:

It’s an odd story with few details, but obviously, we hope LJ is okay and we will respect his decision.
