Is Mrs Lang Lang pregnant? That question has been setting Chinese social media ablaze this week, with speculations that the international pianist’s wife, Gina Alice Redlinger, may have a bun in the oven.
Rumours started to circulate when, on April 14, the German-Korean pianist posted on Weibo, China’s equivalent of Twitter, a video promoting a milk powder brand.
Seated elegantly at a grand piano in her lavishly furnished home, she wore a body hugging pink dress that revealed a slightly bulging belly.
A couple of days later the Sina entertainment channel posted pictures of her wearing a flowing dress in a hotel for a photo shoot with her tuxedo-clad husband. The headline of the Sina post read “Something is happening? Lang Lang’s wife wears a loose-fitting long dress to cover her small belly.”

The fact that Redlinger often wears clothes in public that show off her svelte figure made the latest change of style noticeable; the 26-year-old told the local media before that her waist measurement was 56cm (23 inches).
The Post contacted Creative Artists Agency China, who started representing the pianist last year, to confirm the rumoured pregnancy, but the agency had not responded at the time of publication.

Since joining the entertainment industry, Redlinger has featured in many commercials. She has also set her sights on becoming a singer, performing the Chinese song that promoted Frozen 2 sequel to the huge 2013 Disney hit, last year. Huiyizhihe, or “River of Remembrance”, was released by Universal Music China ahead of the opening of the animated feature in China in November.
Lang helped ease his young wife’s foray into showbiz last year, starring with her in reality TV show Happiness Trio, which delves into the love life of celebrity couples.
Redlinger’s rumoured pregnancy was greeted with much enthusiasm online. One web poster wrote: “It’s been nearly a year since their announcement of marriage. A handsome guy paired up with a beautiful girl. Their love story has long been a subject of public envy. Lang Lang is already 38 years old. He is at the peak of his career. If he becomes a father [now], it’s a beautiful thing.”
According to the Chinese media, Redlinger met Lang in Berlin in 2013 and has since performed around the world with his International Music Foundation for music education.
Lang announced his wedding to Redlinger last year. Their fairy-tale wedding ceremony took place at a hotel in France and a banquet was held at the Palace of Versailles.
On the day Lang posted pictures of their wedding on Weibo, the online post was “liked” more than one million times. Twelve years younger than Lang (who turns 38 in June), Redlinger is an established pianist in her own right, holding public performances since the age of eight.
