Is Jean dying on EastEnders? Stacey's mum deletes voicemails from doctor amid 'cancer return'

Jean Slater has been secretly struggling in the wake of her cancer potentially returning on EastEnders.

Stacey's mum, played by Gillian Wright, was left devastated on Christmas Day after discovering a lump on her breast.

Rather than tell her family, she organised with the hospital to get it checked out.

But when she attended her appointment at the doctors on Monday this week, Jean began to panic about the prospect of her cancer being back.

While the doctor assured her not to worry until they had the results back from the biopsy, Jean had disappeared before she had been taken for her test.

Later on in the week, Jean decided to attend a party with Mo and she got talking to Iqra, who opened up about her worries about Ash.

Revealing her own state of mind, Jean said that she is learning to live in the here and now and went on to delete voicemails from her doctor, vowing to have fun.

But does Jean really have cancer? Or is it just her mind convincing her that it is back?

She was left devastated last year when the love of her life, Daniel, died after suffering from terminal cancer.

Jean first met Daniel while attending a doctor's appointment following her ovarian cancer diagnosis in 2019.

The pair began to grow close as they had treatment, though Daniel soon discovered that his cancer was terminal.

But she later received a phone call from his neighbour telling her that Daniel had died and Jean later attended his memorial.

However, it was later revealed that Daniel had faked his death because he felt he had become too emotionally involved with Jean and that he didn't want to put her through the pain of watching him die.

He returned two months later and while Jean was initially furious, she discovered that he paid the Slaters' rent in full for a year, stopping them from being evicted.

After spending a bit more time together, Daniel died while they sat on a bench together in the Square, leaving Jean heartbroken.
