So ITV has declined live coverage of the Euro 2008 football final on June 29. Is this the right decision?
ITV1 will leave live coverage of the final to BBC1, settling instead for highlights later in the day.
In many ways this is no big surprise, given that England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland all failed to qualify for Euro 2008. Commercially, it's almost certainly the sensible thing to do.
And given the shellacking ITV normally takes in the ratings when it goes head to head with the BBC for live coverage of the final of the Euro and World Cup tournaments every two years, it will probably also save the broadcaster from a bunch of negative headlines come June 30.
