The election gains are expected to increase Iran's engagement with the world following the signing of the nuclear deal which ended years of international sanctions.

The election results are seen as a blow to the conservative Islamic establishment, although it retains decisive power due to Iran's unwieldy dual system of clerical and republican rule.

The twin polls, for parliament and the assembly, are seen by analysts as a crucial moment for Iran following years of international isolation. It’s also a vote of confidence for the detente policy of President Hassan Rouhani.
