'Is it illegal to drive in flip-flops?’ Listen to these unbelievable 999 calls to West Yorkshire Police

Broken toe nails, contactless payment problems and a question about driving in flip flops - just some of the unbelievable nuisance 999 calls made to West Yorkshire Police .

The 999 number is there to contact police for urgent help in emergency situations - but some calls are just a complete waste of police time.

Police have reported that they receive upwards of 120 non-emergency phone calls on their emergency hotline every single day.

In a video released on WYP Twitter account, which you can watch above, are some of the weirdest phone calls received by their emergency-only 999 service.

Some of these have to be heard to be believed, with callers phoning in to report issues such as their contactless card not working, broken toe nails and their dog being humped by a Staffie.

The force have released the video in order to raise awareness of the amount of time that is wasted on non-emergency phone calls.

Only call 999 in a genuine emergency -  for anything else use to the police’s 101 non-emergency service.
