Is it going to snow in London? Latest forecast for capital as temperature plunges to -3C

Snow falling in Camden - (Jeremy Selwyn)

Unsettled weather is sweeping the UK, bringing the chance of snow according to some forecasters.

According to forecaster ECMWF, some parts of North Wales and the Lake District could see wintry showers.

Londoners woke up to freezing fog on Friday with the temperature dropping as low as -3C.

The Met Office issued a weather warning for the parts of south London, running from midnight on Thursday to 9am on Friday.

However the early mist and fog is expected to give way to sunny spells through the morning. Conditions are expected to turn more unsettled later in the day, with strong winds picking up during the afternoon and evening.

Saturday will bring scattered heavy showers across the capital, which are expected to become more frequent and persistent on Sunday.

Chief Meteorologist, Matthew Lehnert, said: “The UK will see further unsettled weather through the weekend and into next week. After a chilly start with the chance of some icy patches and fog in the southeast of England, wind and rain will move across the UK through Friday.

“It’ll be an unpleasant evening rush hour so do leave extra time if you’re out on the roads.

“The highest rainfall totals from Friday into Saturday will be over high ground in south Wales, southwest England, Cumbria, southwest Scotland and Northern Ireland. 20-30 mm of rain is likely in these areas, most of which will fall in around 6-9 hours.

“Given how wet it has already been, the additional rainfall, especially in western areas, could lead to localised flooding and travel disruption.”
