Is I'm A Celebrity on tonight and what happened? Everything we know about the 2021 series going off-air

It's been a pretty dramatic week for I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! 2021.

Thursday saw Richard Madeley announce his sudden exit from the show after being rushed to hospital, while Friday's live instalment was cancelled for the first time in 19 years due to Storm Arwen.

Then ITV announced the cancellations of shows over the weekend, with Monday's episode also axed after extreme weather conditions caused production difficulties at Gwrych Castle.

Fears began to mount over this year's series continuing, especially when the contestants were removed from camp, but now ITV has confirmed the live shows will be returning after the crew worked around the clock to get things back up and running again.

But what happened to I'm A Celebrity, is it back on tonight and what can viewers expect? Here's everything we know.

Why was I'm A Celebrity cancelled?

I'm A Celebrity cancelled Friday night's live show for first time in 19 years due to Storm Arwen.

The episode was pre-recorded instead as part of precautionary measures put into place by production due to concerns the satellite link could be impacted.

The celebrities initially remained inside the castle and Ant and Dec recorded their links earlier in the evening so a show could still go ahead.

But things went from bad to worse over the weekend when both Saturday and Sunday night's shows were cancelled altogether "owing to technical difficulties caused by extreme weather conditions in the area".

ITV instead scheduled compilation shows, voiced by Ant and Dec, featuring best moments from previous series.

The campmates were then removed from the castle while the team worked to get the "production base back up and running after suffering technical issues due to the storm".

But despite working around the clock, I'm A Celebrity was cancelled for the third time in a row on Monday night as Ant and Dec explained the production site was "quite badly" damaged in an update on Instagram. You can read more on what they said here.

What happened to Gwrych Castle?

During the storm, the production marquees at Gwrych Castle in Abergele sustained "significant damage".

The base also experienced severe technical issues. Pictures have revealed the scale of damage here.

As a result, all but a skeleton crew of "essential staff" were evacuated from the site, including the contestants who are back in quarantine and presenters Ant and Dec who stayed in a cottage close by and enjoyed Welsh winter walks and takeaways with their time off.

Speaking about the damage on Tuesday's instalment of This Morning, Dec explained: "We could hear the winds howling and blowing so we knew it was pretty rough and then we got a call Saturday morning to say basically the wind had pretty much destroyed the tech base, the marquees had come down and trees had been felled and borders had moved."

He continued: "So the site was unsafe, nobody was allowed back on site until they'd done a whole geological survey to see what had happened. There was no choice but to just pull the show over the weekend which we were just gutted about."

Ant added: "They could have easily said there's too much damage done to the production base and we won't be able to get back on air but they've worked around the clock, the team have been magnificent and they've got us back in."

Fortunately, the castle itself and gardens managed to miss the worst of the storm.

In a fresh update castle bosses said the storm reminded them why the beautiful Grade I-listed building's "situation is so special".

The statement, which was posted on the official Gwrych Castle social media pages, read: "Storm Arwen Update! We would like to confirm that the castle and gardens managed to miss the worst of the storm and have suffered no significant damage.

"Our forebears were always judicious in their choice of site for building a house. At Gwrych, there has been a dwelling for nearly a 1000 years, and we learnt again on Friday night why it’s situation is so special.

"When a storm rolls in off the Irish Sea from the North and West, the shelter the hillside provides places the castle itself in an area of stillness. The roar of the winds through the trees can be heard above but the castle itself is still and calm."

They added: "Take care and keep safe everyone." You can read everything you need to know about Gwrych Castle here.

Where are the I'm A Celebrity contestants staying?

The campmates are back in quarantine as they await to return to camp.

Speaking to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughbhy, Dec explained: "The celebrities had to come out and we put them back into quarantine so they've all been in individual quarantines.

"It's been a huge upheaval of a week but the production team, I have to say, have been magnificent just getting the site up and running and just making it safe so everybody can get back on and we can get the celebs back in and start the show again. "It's been a monumental effort."

Explaining that the castle didn't suffer any damage during the storm, Ant added: "The only reason the celebrities are out of there was because we felt it was just mean to keep them in there when we can't film them.

"We can't do anything with them, we can't do trials with them, so it was decided to take them out of the castle and put them into their single quarantines like they had before they went into the show."

He added: "So they've got no phones, no internet, they are completely cut off from the rest of the world. Just how we like it." You can read more on this here.

Is I'm A Celebrity on tonight?

Yes, I'm A Celebrity will return with a live show on Tuesday, November 30.

Viewers can tune into ITV at 9pm to see the camp back in action, with Kadeena Cox and Arlene Phillips taking on a trial.

There will also be a live public vote for a new trial during tonight's episode with Ant and Dec revealing the result to the campmates live at the end of the programme.

In a statement yesterday a spokesperson for I'm A Celebrity told WalesOnline: "I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! will return from tomorrow night (Tuesday 30th November) on ITV and ITV Hub with a brand new show.

"Ant & Dec will be back presenting live from the Castle."
