‘Is he the right man?’ - Newcastle and Tottenham fans react to Paulo Fonseca after Bruce sacking

Tottenham and Newcastle fans have been debating the potential arrival of Paulo Fonseca after Steve Bruce left his role at St James’ Park.

The Magpies confirmed on Wednesday morning that Bruce had left the club following their £300million Saudi-backed takeover earlier this month, with a number of names having been mentioned as his possible successor.

Newcastle did announce that Graeme Jones was set to lead the team on an interim basis ahead of this weekend’s clash with Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

One of those to crop up on a more permanent basis, however, was that of former Roma head coach Paulo Fonseca, who had been linked with the vacancy at Tottenham earlier in the year.

The Portuguese was strongly associated with the north London club amid their search for Jose Mourinho ’s successor, but a deal failed to come about.

He revealed that the arrival of Fabio Paratici at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was a major reason for the breakdown of a deal.

Talking to The Telegraph, he said: "The agreement was done. We were planning the pre-season and Tottenham wanted an offensive coach. It wasn't announced but we planned pre-season players.

"But things changed when the new managing director arrived and we didn't agree with some ideas and he preferred another coach.”

Now, having been linked with potentially taking control at St James’ Park, Tottenham and Newcastle fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the former Spurs target.

Intriguingly, Fonseca was actually replaced at Roma by former Spurs manager Jose Mourinho and has been out of a job ever since.

Alongside the Portuguese, other candidates were also in the frame to arrive in north London including Antonio Conte and Genarro Gatusso.

The former has also been linked with possible being installed at St James’ Park in recent weeks.
