'Is Guardiola joking': Manchester City's Champions League starting lineup confuses fans

Manchester City fans have been left perplexed by the starting line-up to face RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League.

With City already secured qualification for the knockout stages, the final group game is a dead rubber.

Though many supporters expected to see a more youthful side, manager Pep Guardiola has named a strong XI.

Outside of Zack Steffen in goal, Guardiola has opted for a midfield trio of Fernandinho, Kevin de Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan while ahead of them is Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish.

The likes of Cole Palmer, James McAtee and Josh Wilson-Esbrand have all made the bench and will be hoping to feature at some point.

But with nothing but pride to play for out in Germany, fans took to social media to voice their disappointment with Guardiola and his choice of starting players.

Quite a few reacted by asking why senior players such as Foden was starting, others questioned why first-team players were risked in what was a 'glorified friendly.'

Top spot in Group A is guaranteed with City four points above Paris Saint-Germain.
