Is Google Docs and Google Drive down? Users reporting problems with service

People across the world are reporting problems with Google Docs and Google Drive.

The web-based service, which allows users to use free word processing, presentation and spreadsheet software, appeared to start having issues at around 6pm on Monday.

According to the website Downdetector, there has been a huge spike in users reporting problems.

Many say they are unable to open the service, and are instead being met with this error message: "Our systems have detected unusual traffic from your computer network. Please try your request again later."

Thousands of people took to Twitter to vent their frustration at the service being down.

One Twitter use wrote: "Of course Google Docs would go down when I finally have time today to work on my essay."

A second tweeted: "Starting Monday off with an assignment due in 3 hours and google drive is down."

Another said: "Google docs is down right when I'm working towards a 3 pm deadline on something I've been procrastinating on and I guess what I'm trying to say is, you win this time the consequences of my own actions.

And another Twitter user wrote: "Google Docs is down! The world is ending. Everyone go home, nothing left to do today."

Google has not yet commented on the issue.
