ChatGPT has been hit by an outage as many users are reporting problems with the chatbot's responsiveness to their enquiries.
Monitoring platform Down Detector received more than a thousand complaints on Wednesday morning.
Downdector shared that 95 per cent of users complained of problems with ChatGPT, while another five per cent said they had issues using the app.
Issues were reported by users all around the United Kingdom, with the most complaints coming from locations like London, Manchester and Glasgow .
ChatGPT's service status page has also updated to show that a problem has been detected.
“ChatGPT Not Displaying Responses,” it writes. “We are investigating the root cause.”
Numerous users have shared their experiences on social media, with some claiming that the chatbot is unresponsive or displaying error messages, while others are unable to log in at all.
One user wrote on X: “Anybody else facing this with ChatGPT? All the responses seem to be gone? #openai #ChatGPTdown”

Tests run by The Standard confirm the platform is currently down, as it fails to respond to basic enquiries. The chatbot loads and reloads the little square seen in the image below.
This isn’t the first time ChatGPT has experienced outages. It experienced similar problems in July, and went down several times throughout 2024, with a major outage affecting the bot, its API, and the Sora video generator for several hours.
In addition to having both free and premium modes, ChatGPT may converse with users in a human-like manner while responding to queries and finishing jobs. Many industries have began to rely on the chatbot due to its ability to complete a large number of tasks including developing code.
Some alternatives to ChatGPT include Google Gemini, Meta AI, Claude (for writing), and You.com.
