At this point in time, with less than a week to go until the 2020 NFL Draft, we all know the type of physical attributes that Ohio State defensive end Chase Young has, and we’ve seen what he can do on the football field. When lining up against the college-level competition, Young made a mockery of the opposing team, racking up an OSU single-season record 16.5 sacks in 14 games during his senior season.
His former college coach looks at his past performance and knows that there’s something special in Young — something you can’t teach.
“God put together that guy,” former OSU coach Urban Meyer said, via NBC Sports Washington. “He said, ‘I’m going to make one of the best defensive ends to ever play college football.’ I think he’s going to carry on in the NFL. He’s got it all.”
One of the best defensive ends to ever play college football? Quite the proclamation from a future Hall-of-Fame head coach, but it’s hard to argue against. According to Pro Football Focus, Young had a higher pass-rushing grade in his senior season (96.1) than either of the Bosa brothers, both of whom came out of Ohio State and dominated instantly in the NFL.
So will he play up to the levels of Von Miller, or Julius Peppers? It’s not out of the question. No matter what he does, fans of the Redskins will likely get a front-row seat to it all.
