Is Bruce Irvin considering a return to the Seattle Seahawks?

The Seattle Seahawks have some shopping to do this offseason. At the top of their list is the pass rush, a need for them regardless of whether they re-sign defensive end Frank Clark.

One familiar name the Seahawks could turn to on the free-agent market is Bruce Irvin, who will become a free agent after spending last season split between the Raiders and the Falcons.

Irvin spent the first four years of his seven-year career in the Emerald City, racking up 143 tackles, 22 sacks, three interceptions and two touchdowns while being an instrumental part of Seattle’s back-to-back Super Bowl appearances in the Legion of Boom era.

Irvin is from Atlanta, part of the reason he joined the Falcons after Oakland let him go midway through the 2018 season. However, a deep connection to Seattle and the Seahawks’ need for edge rushing could make a reunion a perfect fit for both sides.

Irvin gave the rumors a little credence on Sunday when he tweeted this in response to a fan asking him to return to Seattle:

Clark responded to Irvin, saying “Me, you, and reed” followed by a handful of emojis. Of course, Seattle has to bring Clark back for that trio to happen, but all indications are that Seattle and Clark will come to some kind of agreement, either a long-term extension or a franchise tag.

Irvin responded to that as well:

With free agency set to open on March 13, there is still plenty of time to speculate. However, a reunion with Irvin at least looks like a possibility if Seattle can make the financials work.
