Is Brighton vs Liverpool on TV? - Live stream, channel and 3pm blackout explained

Liverpool will look to return to winning ways on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Brighton in the Premier League.

Beaten by Brentford last time out in the top flight, the Reds enter this fixture fully aware they cannot afford to fall further off the pace being set by the top four. A win for the home side would see them go above Liverpool in the table, too.

Jurgen Klopp's team struggled last weekend in their FA Cup third-round tie with Wolves and will need to be at their best to get the better of the Seagulls, who will fancy their chances of winning the midfield battle at the Amex Stadium.

Ahead of the showdown, we have rounded up all the details you need to know in relation to Brighton vs Liverpool.

What time is kick-off?

Brighton will host Liverpool at 3pm on Saturday afternoon, the traditional start time for fixtures within English football.

Is the match on TV?

No. As the game is scheduled for a 3pm kick-off, it will not be shown on the television. The 3pm blackout has been in place since the 1960s and prevents matches from being televised in the UK.

The football blackout is the rule that no Premier League, Football League or FA Cup matches can be shown live on a Saturday between 2.45pm and 5.15pm.

Reports last year suggested the EFL would consider lifting the blackout in their TV rights sale, from 2024/25 onwards, with EFL chairman Rick Parry stating in 2021 they would remain "open-minded" about new approaches to broadcasting.

“We are almost unique in Europe now in having a blackout period," said Parry. "I’m not presuming that it (3pm blackout) goes, but equally, if we’re looking at streaming, at new technologies and new broadcasters, we will probably have to be open-minded in terms of scheduling."

Early team news

Darwin Nunez remains a doubt for the trip to the south coast, having missed training for the majority of this week with a minor issue. This, therefore, could pave the way for Cody Gakpo to start his first Premier League game as a Liverpool player.

Meanwhile, Reds boss Klopp has confirmed that James Milner and Stefan Bajcetic are available again, but Roberto Firmino remains sidelined with the Brazilian not yet close to a return to training.

"Milly did big parts of training yesterday," said Klopp on Friday. "He will be back in normal training today. Stefan will be back in training today. He was out, got a knock on the hip bone. Quite uncomfortable but he will be back as well. Bobby not. Still a little bit (to go). At first it was a little injury. Estimated 10 days, two weeks. Did the normal rehab stuff. All experts told us what we can do. Then Bobby felt something again. That kept him out for longer. I don't know when he will be back. He's not close to team training."

Brighton, meanwhile, will be without star man Leandro Trossard. The Belgian midfielder, who scored a hat-trick in the 3-3 draw at Anfield back in October, has been excluded by manager Roberto De Zerbi due to attitude issues.
