Is boxing on the horizon again for Conor McGregor? Dana White not thinking about that right now

LAS VEGAS – Despite the launch of Zuffa Boxing being imminent, Dana White says people should pump the brakes on the Conor McGregor boxing talk.

McGregor, who returns Saturday in the UFC 246 main event against Donald Cerrone, has expressed interest in competing in a boxing match again.

In 2017, McGregor crossed over to the world of boxing when he took on undefeated multi-time boxing champion Floyd Mayweather. Mayweather stopped him with a TKO in the 10th round.

McGregor reportedly made around $100 million in that fight and would like to run things back with Mayweather. McGregor has even said there have been talks of a potential match with another boxing champ, Manny Pacquiao.

“I would love that Floyd rematch,” McGregor said at Wednesday’s UFC 246 news conference in Las Vegas. “For what was in front of me, I thought I (did) very well (against Mayweather). I thought some slight adjustments, I would have done even better. So I feel now I could take that victory. The Manny Pacquiao talks have been ongoing. An aspiration for me now also is to win a boxing world title. I think that would be a phenomenal feather in the cap and something I look to achieve in the future – and something I will achieve.

“It would be an honor to come back into boxing, and who knows – maybe I will kickstart stuff with boxing if we can get there.”

But after Wednesday’s UFC 246 press conference, UFC president White told MMA Junkie he’s not interested in that yet.

“I’m not thinking about that right now,” White said. “Conor has this fight on Saturday, which puts him in line for another title shot (with a win). I’m not even thinking about the boxing stuff as far as Conor goes.”

UFC 246 takes place Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on UFC Fight Pass/ESPN+.
