Is Bills DC Leslie Frazier the perfect coach for the Texans’ job?

Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier may actually be the perfect coach to fix the Houston Texans.

According to the NFL Network’s Marc Ross, who worked with Frazier from 1999-2002 with the Philadelphia Eagles, the 61-year-old may actually possess the traits necessary to turn a 4-12 team around and put them back on track to contend in the postseason.

“What the players are saying now is what they’re saying about Leslie Frazier then: a man with quiet confidence, a man who was really invested in his players, not just on the field, but off the field — a man that was invested in the other coaches and the staff as well,” Ross said. “And you mentioned faith. Leslie Frazier is a deep man of faith and that guides him with all his decisions and how he approaches football and life.”

The Texans currently are dealing with friction between three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson and the front office and ownership. The Texans also have an executive vice president in Jack Easterby who has been in the organization since April of 2019 and has coincidentally been around key departures and shakeups in staff in that span.

Nevertheless, Ross believes Frazier, who coached the Minnesota Vikings from 2010-13, can get the job done with the AFC South club.

Said Ross: “He’s coached, has been a head coach before, a coordinator for years and years. So, he may be the perfect person. But you look at it from the outside and say, ‘Why would Leslie take that job because of all of those issues?’ But there are only 32 jobs, and especially for a Black coach, a Black head coach opportunities don’t come around as we know still not very often. So, this may be Leslie’s chance, and, again, with the faith he had and all head coaches think they can fix a situation, and with Leslie Frazier’s faith, I think wholeheartedly think he can go in there and fix what’s wrong with the Texans.”

The Texans have a second interview lined up with Baltimore Ravens receivers coach David Culley on Wednesday.
