Network Ten has spoken out following claims that the Big Brother Australia revamp isn’t actually filmed live as promised.
One production insider claimed that the whole “live revival” is basically smoke and mirrors and that as of last Friday, only ten minutes of the entire season had actually gone to air in real time on the free-to-air channel.
“So far, there’s barely been a blip of live television,” the insider told PEDESTRIAN.TV at the time. “It’s rehearsed, pre-cut and edited to feel live, but it’s not.”

The insider claimed the only moments that were genuinely live before last Friday had occurred in episode two when Jane, the mysterious 13th housemate, strolled into the Dreamworld house and a few ten second live crosses from Mel Tracina.
“They can only slap ‘LIVE’ on the screen when it is live, and that hasn’t been more than about ten minutes this season,” the source added. “By the time anyone notices… it’s over.”
Viewers have already taken to socials to call out the “live” branding, with one person writing: “If you’re going to call it live, make it live, otherwise it’s just false advertising”.
“I’m confused about how this is a live nominations show if they’ve already done the nominations,” another person wrote.
“I wish the nominations were actually live,” a third viewer added, with another asking: “Wait, didn’t they advertise live nominations for weeks and months now?”
Is Big Brother Australia actually filmed live?
To get to the bottom of the chatter, we spoke to Network Ten to understand how the whole ‘live’ schtick actually works.
A spokesperson clarified that live nominations and live eviction shows are, indeed, presented live by Mel Tracina on stage.
As for nominations, since they are quite lengthy, these are edited as a package for brevity, but the cameras do cross live to the house to tell the housemates who is up for nomination and live to the house for eliminations.
“It has been such a thrill to give OG Big Brother fans exactly what they want: a return to live shows on the Dreamworld stage,” the spokesperson told PEDESTRIAN.TV.
“Live nomination episodes are hosted by Mel Tracina in real time. To cut to the juicy bit (the housemates’ reactions!), Diary Room nominations are shown as a package in show. Nominations are lengthy and would run over the show’s 60-minute duration otherwise.”
It comes after the livestream copped backlash due to controversial remarks made by recently evicted housemate and self-proclaimed villain Michael Downs. Plus, there’s an ongoing fartgate feud that’s sparked an online debate.
