Is artwork on Tokyo floodgate a Banksy?

The Tokyo metropolitan government is set to verify if a drawing of a rat on a floodgate near a Yurikamome Line station in Minato Ward, Tokyo, is the work of the mysterious and world-famous artist Banksy, sources have said.

According to the metropolitan government, it learned from a citizen at the end of last year that a drawing that could be the work of Banksy was found on the gate near Hinode Station. The metropolitan government confirmed there was a drawing of an animal that looks like a rat holding an umbrella, measuring more than 20 centimeters in length and width.

Although its authenticity is unknown, the metropolitan government removed part of the gate and put it in storage Wednesday.

"We are keeping it since it may cause a sensation if it were to be authenticated. We'd like to find an expert who can appraise the drawing and conduct further inspection," a metropolitan government official said.
