Is Alexander Gustafsson one step closer to a return to the UFC?

“The Mauler” is back.

Well, back to competing at least. The currently retired mixed martial artist Alexander Gustafsson will be taking part in a no-gi grappling match in Sweden, and may be inching closer to a UFC return.

AK Fighting Championship announced Wednesday that Gustafsson will face Anton Turkalj in a no-gi grappling match in Gothenburg, Sweden, on Dec. 11.

The three-time light heavyweight title challenger announced his retirement in June following a fourth-round submission loss to Anthony Smith at UFC on ESPN+ 11.

But since then, Gustafsson has admitted he’s already thinking about a potential return, and his upcoming grappling match could be the perfect way for him to ease his way back into competition.
