Is a storm heading for Ireland next week? Met Eireann forecast as weather charts predict low system

Weather charts show a low-pressure system heading near Ireland next weekend but forecasters say it's too early to say if it will bring a storm.

Some online weather pages have forecast the system to come very close to the country next Saturday with charts showing a potential storm.

Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather said it's too unpredictable and far out at the moment to say if a storm is on the horizon.

The weather man said: "The uncertainty beyond Friday continues. Look at the differences on the GFS and ECMWF here.

"The ECMWF has a storm while GFS has calm and settled. Stay tuned and expect a lot of chopping and changing on automated app forecasts etc!"

Met Eireann don't forecast that far in advance due to the unpredictability of weather but are expecting a change to come mid week.

The current forecast states: "Unsettled conditions with Atlantic low pressure bringing spells of wet and sometimes windy weather over the weekend."

Aiden would be the name of the storm if it was to reach storm warning levels after the list of names was announced earlier this week.

Bella, Gavin, Julia, Minnie, Oscar, Ravi, Saidhbhin and Wilson are among the storm names for 2020-21 announced by the UK Met Office, Met Eireann and Dutch national weather forecasting service the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI).
