A 53-year-old man from Irving Park dies several days after he was shot in south suburban Harvey while at a gun violence memorial.

David Ibarra died Monday of complications of a gunshot wound to the back at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Ibarra was shot about 3:10 p.m. Nov. 9 while he was getting his vehicle serviced in the south suburb, according to Harvey police chief Eddie Winters.

Out of curiosity, he went to look at a nearby makeshift memorial of someone shot about four or five years ago in the 200 block of East 159th Street, Winters said. He then heard gunfire and realized he had been hit.

Winters said the shots came from a white vehicle traveling east on 159th.

An autopsy released Tuesday ruled his death a homicide. No arrests have been made, Winters said.
