Irvinestown man wins Tayto Big Cheese Award for food parcels during coronavirus lockdown

An Irvinestown man has won a Tayto Big Cheese Award for his contribution to the community throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Stephen Millar, who owns Millar Meats, was nominated by his wife Clare Millar for his dedication to helping locals through lockdown.

His award win is in recognition of the delivery service he established during lockdown, and delivering food parcels throughout the pandemic to help people in the area.

He's one of seven people across Northern Ireland who have won a Big Cheese Award with Tayto this year.

The Big Cheese Awards were developed to help shout about the champions of Northern Ireland and give them the recognition they deserve for being a shining star and supporting so many others throughout a difficult year.

They were designed to show appreciation for local superheroes in the community, who have unselfishly supported others throughout a very difficult year.

The last fifteen months have been challenging for everyone and during this time some people have stepped up to the mark and for their family, friends and neighbours and this should be celebrated, Tayto believes.

When nominating Stephen, Clare said: “Stephen has gone above and beyond for our local community in Fermanagh since the pandemic began. He quickly implemented a delivery service for his butcher shop and worked night and day to ensure no one went without food.”

“During the height of the pandemic Stephen, an Asthma sufferer, was rarely home due to working in the shop, delivering food parcels and supporting the local community. To protect his staff and customers, Stephen installed increased health and safety measures in store very early on.

"He also continued to give back by donating around £600 to local Dementia charities as well as vouchers and meat boxes for charity auctions” Clare continued.
