Irvinestown crash claims the life of pedestrian as motorist arrested

A 54-year-old pedestrian has died following a crash earlier this morning.

Elaine Patricia McGarrity, from the Irvinestown area of Co Fermanagh passed away following a collision at 9am this morning, December 31.

Police say the crash involving a Toyota Hilux pick-up truck happened on Brownshill Link Road, Irvinestown.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is currently in police custody.

Inspector Greg Beckett has appealed to anyone who was travelling on the Brownshill Link Road this morning and witnessed the collision or anyone who has dash-cam footage that could assist with police enquiries to contact officers at Omagh on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 321 31/12/19.

The Brownhill Link Road in Irvinestown has now re-opened.
